Concord New Energy Hosted the Fifth (2023) Technical Forum of Wind Energy Resources Professional Group

News Updates 23 Apr,2023

In April, spring is in the air, and friends from across the country flocked to Chengdu! On April 21, the Fifth (2023) Technical Forum of Wind Energy Resources Professional Group, sponsored by the Wind Energy Professional Committee of China Renewable Energy Society, hosted by Concord New Energy Group, and co-organized by China General Certification Center and Beijing RETEC New Energy Technology Co., Ltd, was successfully held in Chengdu.

The forum centered on four major technical themes. 16 speakers and over 300 industry experts from wind power developers, machine manufacturers, design institutes, research universities, third-party institutions, and wind measurement manufacturers were invited to exchange ideas on related topics, such as the difficulties of wind resource evaluation for large and complex projects, the evaluation methods for insufficient wind resource data at the early stage of the project, and the wind resource evaluation in the process of “substituting small units with large ones”.

Tian Ye, Deputy Secretary General of Wind Energy Professional Committee of China Renewable Energy Society, and Lu Yichuan, Chief Technology Officer of Concord New Energy Group, delivered speeches at the forum.

Deputy Secretary General Tian Ye said that by the end of 2022, the installed capacity of China wind energy had reached 396 million kilowatts, becoming the backbone of energy increment. At present, onshore projects have achieved parity, while offshore projects are striving towards parity. Wind resource assessment plays an important part in wind power projects and affects the entire lifecycle of wind power project, from development, construction, to operation. Therefore, conducting wind resource assessment in a scientific, accurate, and efficient manner helps ensure safe operation, environmental friendliness, and project profitability. The Wind Energy Resources Professional Group is the most active organization of the Wind Energy Professional Committee and has achieved tremendous results. We hope that the upstream and downstream of the industry can closely collaborate, fully share knowledge and experience, and promote progress in the industry.

Lu Yichuan pointed out that the wind energy resources profession involves sophisticated evaluation work, and scientific and accurate evaluation of the wind energy resources is crucial for project safety and profitability. In recent years, China’s wind energy sector is facing new challenges. For example, the rapid growth of installed capacity are increasingly contradictory to the sophisticated requirements for wind resource assessment; with the development of offshore wind power, and large bases in southeastern Middle East, it becomes increasingly challenging to scientifically select models under complex on-site shear conditions; as wind turbines constantly iterate, there are difficulties in applying the latest technological achievements to production in a safe and scientific way. The industry needs to promote technological innovation and optimization between industrial chains and explore wind resource assessment methods that address practical problems, so as to promote the rapid, accurate and scientific assessment of wind resources, enhance the core competitiveness of China’s wind energy industry, and develop the wind energy industry into the mainstay for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.

In the speech session, 16 speakers from enterprises and institutions such as China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China Huaneng Group, Goldwind Sci & Tech, China Datang Corporation, and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute made thematic reports on the difficulties of wind resource assessment in large and complex projects, the wind resource assessment in the process of “substituting small units with large ones”, the assessment methods for insufficient wind resource data at the early stage of the project, and open research topics related to wind resources.

Liang Huisen, Deputy Director of the Technical Center of Concord New Energy Group, delivered a keynote speech, introducing the laws and typical cases of wind shear and the selection of high and low towers, and analyzing in detail the relationship between wind shear and the selection of tower height. These can be used to optimize and select hub height schemes for large and complex projects.

Shi Yanfeng, the chief engineer from Concord Power Consulting and Design, analyzed the impact of varying degrees of missing wind measurement data and terrain data in the early stage on capacity assessment and power generation assessment based on different conditions of the project.

After in-depth exchanges and heated discussions on hot issues such as resource assessment, power generation assessment and wind shear calculation in the process of “substituting small units with large ones”, the technical forum of the wind energy resources professional group was successfully concluded. In the future, CNE will cooperate partners in the wind power industry to empower the wind power industry and boost the high-quality development of renewable energy.
